Summary | 0000018: Flexshare single user ownership with group read access
Description | When specifying a flexshare with a single user owner. Directory is setup with permissions 755. Ownership is username:nobody This should permit read only access by other users However Samba config only permits a single user login, because it contains the directive valid users = "%D\user" This makes the share unavailable for other users Is it possible to make this clear from the webconfig, or add functionality to permit group read access. I.e. specify group, instead of nobody for directory permissions, and add the following to Samba config. valid users = @"%D\allusers" You may for example wish to have a r/w admin share that is readable by other 'normal' domain users For more info 0003191">http://www.clearfoundation.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,232/catid,13/func,view/id,2328/limit,10/limitstart,10/0003191 [0003191" target="_blank">^]

A share should not be created for a single use. All users automatically have a home share. The name of that share is their login id. Home folders (shares) can not be shared by other users. They are designed to be private. Shared folders should be created with a unique name (not matching any username) and should be assigned to group ownership. Group members will have access to the share. If there is a compelling proposition for other means I'd love to hear it. |

Hi John Not sure if you are agreeing with the feature request? I am requesting that user owned shares should be readable by the group users as a default, as per your post At present a flexshare can be defined with user ownership. This does not permit group users to login with read only access to the share due to 'valid users' directive as detailed above This is required when someone wants a flexshare that is r/w for one user, but read only for a group. Otherwise we would always define 'group' ownership with full r/w for all group members. (Home shares being the exception to the rule) As a general comment it would be nice to have more control over flexshare group permissions, in addition to the owner permissions already provided |
