Or perhaps, rather than populate the hosts file, add a configuration directive --dhcp-host to dnsmasq.conf or one of its subfiles. This looks like you can set the MAC, IP address and host name in one line, which could be in a separate sub-file. This would replace /etc/ethers combined with the hosts file. |

From the man page, it would be better to use a subfile specified by --dhcp-hostsfile=<path> as this is reread when a SIGHUP is issued avoiding the need to reload dnsmasq when changes are made. This change could then be integrated into the Network Map as you would then have a link between MAC and Device Name. |
