Summary0012241: HPE B140i driver
DescriptionNo fan support for many HPE systems unless B140i is used.

Add supported B140i driver support by doing one of the following:

1) ClearOS-specific driver provided by HPE
2) symbol matching (not recommended)
3) remove QoS support on inbound QoS app in the marketplace (not recommended)

If able, running the ClearOS system by disabling the B140i will allow you to run software RAID and avoid issues with this driver. The downside is that the system cannot take temperature on the drives and will cause the fans to be noisy.

Known workarounds:

For systems where the previous version of ClearOS has worked with B140i, users should remain on the previous kernel until this current feature is resolved.

For users who need B140i and a current kernel, you can temporarily use the kernel for CentOS and the appropriate Redhat driver. This will currently cause the QoS application to fail if you are using it. When this bug is resolved, QoS will be aware of the status and running a CentOS kernel against QoS will cause it to be limited in functionality but will not cause it to fail:

The technical difficulties and the lack of upstream resources make this problematic. Even if you forced the kernel to be the same and removed inbound QoS you'd still be in the position where rebuilding the kernel to fix a major issue is still dependent upon upstream resources.

The long-term fix is to use software RAID or true RAID controllers. For sound issues, pulling the data from the SMART controller instead is the best long term fix.
